I'm late to the game. Finally got my hands on this thing that's been staring at me in the face, taunting me.

Let me preface by saying, I've honestly grown slowly tired of specific types of tropes [that also breed specific types of characters]. If you know, you know.

The way this author puts her take on it is so refreshing. Each character presented in this book had multiple layers, each facet of their experiences playing a major role in who they became. Wait...not just who they became, but how they respond to the world and the sh!t life throws at them.

When so much crap happens to your life early on and consistently, one must grow up quick, fast and in a hurry. You cant dilly dally and make stupid decisions that will put people's lives in danger. You have to become smart, cunning, hardened. Your connections turn into a tight circle, hard to breach what was forged in fire together.

This does not mean you become some superhero/villain-badass-nothing can stand in your way kind of character. Yeah, I know it's fiction...but it's also d@mn refreshing to see characters represented more towards the REALISTIC side. Refreshing - like I said, like I'll keep saying. Blade is a heroine I can stand behind. Her strength and her weaknesses made her so relatable, you can't help but root for this little crew.
_____________________________
She smells like everything wrong that's right.
_____________________________

Can we talk about the s3x scenes? I've read so many books over so many genres by both men and women and whatnot...it's been a while where I actually feel physical reactions to what I'm reading. I had to even go back over some of these scenes - I lied. It was ALL of the scenes - a few times just to savor what I just read. Holy hell on a Popsicle stick. I really enjoyed watching the relationships unfold. It's not going to be one filled with drama, if that's what you are looking for.
________________________
Ten years I've waited for this moment.

"Last chance, Killer. There's no going back after this. You're mine. It's passed due I claim you."

________________________

Watching each character and their flaws represented the way they did, you can tell the author isn't just pulling stuff out of her @ss. And I can really appreciate that. How many times have I read books where my mind is yelling at me about how ...cliche it is? or how..over generalized it is? Blade's PTSD episodes had me thinking about the people I know that still go through their darkness to this day...had me thinking of my own darkness that I still go through to this day.

In a world where the mass expects DRAMA, ROLLING EMOTIONS, HIGHS AND LOWS, WOW factor, trainwrecks and whatever else we've been trained to expect from entertainment...this book comes off as mature, gritty and a glimpse into the life of those in the underground/organization/MC without it being so overwhelmed by the generalization of it.

Does this make sense?

Some books overly boast on the tropes they represent, losing the characters in the over-exaggerated story lines. In this book, it is the characters battling their own inner demons that make the story shine. It's not an in your face, blinding shine...it's so subtle...like a stone being slowly polished to expose the diamond underneath. You have to be in it for the long haul, not give up when the polishing takes to long or when your arm gets tired - because life isn't always easy like that. You don't always get your quick fixes - and sometimes when you do, they are only temporary.
_______________________
Darkness descends. Take me with you. My soul is tearing. Destroyed.
_______________________

Maybe you're not like me. Maybe you were only looking for entertainment when picking up a book. That's okay too.

This is the author's debut and what a debut it was. Was it perfect? No? Life isn't perfect. Would I read more from her? Hell yes, I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us because there's only more growth and going up from here.

I rank this book 4.5 stars and charcoal grey/light dark on my darkness scale.

P.S
I heard book two is even darker than this one!

Bloodlust is one of those books that starts with potential but hasn’t fully grown into it by the end of the novel. That said, I have high hopes for Bloodshed, the second instalment due out at the end of the year.

Unlike many MFM/menagé books, Bloodlust presents two separate relationships which cross over at times. I wouldn’t say that Blade, Harley and Axel are a true triad, but they act like one at times. Conflicting interests and claims on each other are written sensitively and maturely. In fact, in some ways, the relationships between the three are too good to be true. But, this is fiction, so I’m just gonna enjoy it for what it is.

Bloodlust isn’t wholly a crime gang story, nor is it an MC book either. You might think that trying to blend the two would be confusing but, surprisingly, it works. There’s never a battle for dominance between one and the other; it’s clear that the gang is the MC’s supplier and that’s where the hierarchy stops.

Blade is an interesting main character, a woman with a hero complex who’s risen from the ashes of tragedy. Despite all her strength and the facade she hides behind, there are moments of vulnerability. She’s someone you could probably kick back and chill with and has the best mouth ever. Who else would shout out “You Wankstain!” in the middle of sexy time?

There is plenty of gratuitous steam in Bloodlust, probably because both Harley and Axel need to get their alone time with Blade, as well as sharing her. I’m not sure it was always entirely necessary to the story but I’m certainly not complaining!

For me, my top scene in the book was when Axel went off the rails after he woke and Blade wasn’t there. Usually, we see these possessive alpha types being all strong and unflappable once their missing woman has been returned from the clutches of their enemies. It was refreshing to see a normally strong character giving in to vulnerability in the aftermath of such an event. And the resulting steam was hot as hell.

All in all, Bloodlust is a good start to the Underground Affliction duet and I’m excited to see where Denver takes the second part. Once you’ve read it, you’ll know that the final chapter and its cliffhanger is incredibly powerful but, as River would say… Spoilers.

WHY YOU SHOULD READ BLOODLUST
*Insane amount of steam
*Non-stereotypical characters
*Great blend between crime gang and MC

So I had a general idea of was I was walking into (or so I thought) when I started this book, but the author quickly proved me wrong. This book packs a punch from the first page and really takes you on a wild ride.

The h Blade aka Lilith is truly a bada$$. She's fierce, owns her sexuality, and is very protective of the ones she loves.

Although she has her walls up (rightfully so given what she went through as a child), both Harley and Axel refuse to let those walls stop them. They challenge Blade to accept what they always knew to be inevitable, but never expect her to stop being her.

I loved the dynamic between Blade, Axel and Harley. Both balance her out in different ways and watching their relationship develop within each others boundaries was both hot and endearing.

Although the book obviously centers around their relationship, trust me when I say there is so much more going on. All I can say is buckle up for the ride!

Great debut from this author and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book

I read this gem of a book in one day. It was that good since it sucked me in from the first chapter.

Blade is one hell of female protagonist who can kill the bad guys without a thought. But her backstory with Zeke and Charli is painful and is why they do what they do. Her demons plague her and she is closed off even to Harley and Axel her LIs.

The dark twists this book takes kept me turning the pages. In some ways, you have an idea what will happen but not everything. The cliffhanger has me so happy the second book is coming out very soon because I don’t want to wait to see the continuation of the story.

* I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

Ive never read a book by this author but I cant wait to read the follow up to this. This book hooks you in from the first page and holds you captive until the very last.

The story of Blade, Charli and Zeke is dark but you know that there is so much that you are yet to uncover and as the pages turn and Blades walls fall, you see a glimpse in to what may not be the usual type of normal life but one that works for these individuals.

This is dark but fascinating at the same time. You know somethings coming but the cliff hanger has you gaping and wanting the next book.

What an incredible ride that was. This was my first book of Alex's and can I just say it was pretty damn amazing. Enter into the dark and depraved world of the underground with Blade and her crazy family. Full of twists and turns and blood and gore that leaving you begging for more. Full of darkness that helps sooth my soul and jam packed full of hot AF smut that will make you jump your significant other over and over again. I'm absolutely dying to devour part two.

A deliciously dark and savage journey into the underground and a definite must read!

This book was utterly captivating!!!! Like sitting on the edge of your seat, madly flipping pages to get to the end, only to scream for more captivating! Alex Denver is a true mastermind and takes you on an incredible journey in Bloodlust, the first book of the Underground Affliction series!!!! And what a freaking fabulous journey it was! Denver’s ability to lay out an intriguing plot all while creating such enjoyable, phenomenal characters that capture your heart is outstanding!

Right from the start this book grabs your attention and doesn’t let go as it drops you right into the story of Blade, Charli and Zelle: three young orphans living on the street trying to survive at any means. The bond that these three have is noticeable from the start, with sacrifices being made and the ferociousness of their protecting of each other, and your heart can’t help but break for them. This is a story of survival and endurance. A story of how even after experiencing such trauma, torture and endless pain how the meek and abused can not only survive, but make the ultimate comeback and claim their own future. And what a future it is!

Blade, our ferocious protective, fierce as hell badass of a heroine is the main focus of this book and she is amazing!!! I loved her journey and seeing how much she grew as a character. And holy hotness! When Axel and Harley, two very sexy alphas who don’t mind sharing, come into her life? Fireworks and tons of hot sexy steam!!! The

Overall if you’re a dark criminal romance lover and a fan of all things chaotic, bloody and full of mayhem then this book is a definite must read and you might as well one click both books 1 and 2 now while you’re at it because you won’t regret either decision!!! Because that ending?!?! The BEST of cliffhangers ever!!! Just be sure to read the triggers beforehand because this dark journey is definitely trigger worthy! ;)

Not for the faint of heart

This is the first book in the series and the first by this author. It does end in a cliffhanger. This book is dark and could trigger some. Just wanted to put that out there.

3 lost souls, a brother, his sister and her best friend. Tortured and abused when they lose their parents and are placed in a home. They escape the hell they lived through and are picked up by another homeless kid. The homeless kid is a drug dealer and his boss takes in strays to do his bidding in exchange for shelter and protection, however, they do get paid as well and are not forced to stay. They stay and start over, but then that is taken away from them when rivals destroy everything they built.

The 3 rebuild the empire, Underground. They deal in drugs, weapons, clubs/bars, and make quite the name for themselves. The story is mostly about the sister, Blade. Blade kills the son of her abuser and the abuser starts to threaten her by targeting her businesses and those she loves.

Will she get out of this one? I don't know!!! That's the cliffhanger. Only a about a week before the second book comes out and I look forward to reading it!

I really loved the premise of this book and was excited to dive in! I love a book with a strong FMC and this one did not disappoint.

While I did enjoy this book there were quite a few things I would've liked seeing more of. For me personally, I would've loved to see the process of how they rose to be in power and how they built the Underground. One of my other main issues was that the writing style didn't necessarily flow well at times and it took me out of the story but hey that just might be a personal preference! However, i really did love the idea of this book and Blade was freaking bad*ss and someone I immediately fell in love with! I enjoyed all of the characters and it was exciting to watch Blade come out of her shell. Almost all of the characters had an endearing quality to them which is something I haven't seen done in another book yet. Even the side characters were brought to life and just made you love them.

That ending though got me and I just can't wait for book 2 to come out!

This story starts 15 years ago, explaining how Blade, Zeke and Charli came to have there names and the lives that they’d built into an empire.
At the beginning once they befriend a few people and there names are chosen for their new lives, I was expecting it to all be happy , I certainly didn’t expect it to be so tragic right at the start of the book.
Tragic pasts that bring a bunch of people to together to form a family.

I really connected with the characters in this book as well, they all want to protect each other at all costs.

Sex and violence! What an exciting combination.
This book is up there with the gore and steam content.
I truly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for book 2 in this series.

Wow what a cliffhanger , I’m shocked and upset. I can’t believe we’ve got to wait for book 2 before we find out what happens to everyone.
I devoured this book so quick, I just couldn’t stop reading. I think the author did a great job with this story. I can’t wait for book 2 , my fingers will be crossed in anticipation!

Bloodlust is the first book in the Underground Affliction and is an MFM dark romance.
There are some dark themes within this book so please make sure you check the Content Warning before reading.

Blade is a total badass! She will do whatever she needs to in order to keep those she loves safe, and has worked hard over the years to with her brother, Zeke, and best friend, Charli, to build an empire that will keep them safe. However that all changes when someone starts targeting her businesses.

And then there's Axel, the leader of a biker gang that has been waiting for her for 10 years, and Harley, the friend that helps to calm her.
I loved the chemistry between Blade and the guys. It was explosive and steamy leading to some super hot scenes.

The plot was well written and fast paced with plenty of action, and the twists kept me hooked and turning the pages to find out what would happen next.

And that cliffhanger was brutal! I can't wait for the next book to see what Blade's going to do.

Ma’am!!!! How you gonna do me like that… Seriously that ending! Blade, Charli and Zeke have a bond like no other and the lengths that Blade aka Lilith would go through to protect them even at the cost of herself is unmatched. These three have been through the unspeakable together and have cam out on to. The trauma, the abuse, the torture I have no idea how they made it out. Lets not forget to mention Axel and Harley are to die for *swoon* these two are everything you could ever want in a Alpha. They are sexy, loyal, protective…. This book had my attention from the very first page all the way to the end and let me tell you, you are not ready! My freaking heart hurt my gut was in knots and I couldn’t breathe. This is one of those stories that will stick with you days after you have finished reading and still have you thinking about how much you need book 2 asap!! A definite must read and side note: Can we mention Lil’s coffee addiction speaks to my soul.

I have never read anything like this. It is sad, tragic, devastating, chilling, creepy. It also reveals the warmth of true love and trust between three children, Zeke, Blade, Charli who escaped the wicked, twisted foster home of a sick demented abuser and predator. The trio had hoped by changing their names and moving way away they would not be found. It makes me uncomfortable to have read some of the things they had to do to survive and make some sort of life for themselves. The steamy relationships in this book revolved around Harley and Blade (MF), then Blade and Axel (MF) and then the boys sharing Blade (MFM). But there is also tender moments between Blade and Charli (FF). Crazy I know but their you have it. And all these relationships were on a as needed basis. No time frame involved.

Unfortunately, someone was targeting Blade's businesses. Blowing them up and no matter what resources they had, they did not have a clue who could have done it. Then the unthinkable happened. Their perpetrator and abuser found Blade. He kidnapped Charli and now is slicing into Blade and sexually abusing her. CLIFFHANGER on to book two.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed
Great world building
Haunting
Inspirational
Original
Page-turner
Scary
Steamy
Tear-jerker
Tragic
Twisted
Unpredictable

Blade aka Lilith, will do whatever it takes to protect those she loves. She has dealt with a lot of tragedy in her life and it has only made her stronger. She is tough and only bends for her family. That is, until Axel and Harley enter the scene. Now, when Blade is with Axel and/or Harley…let’s just say that there is lots of heat. Like, I-am-not-sure-how-my-kindle-didn’t-catch-fire level of steam. But this causes issues in Blade’s world and she doesn’t know if she will be able to come back from the sacrifice needed to keep everyone safe.

Bloodlust is the first book by Alex Denver that I have read and I have to say that it is amazing! You can tell that the author has room to grow, however I did not find that distracting in the least. This is a fast-paced story that grips you until the end…when I started screaming and demanding book 2…😬 But, anyway, there are so many ways that Alex Denver can grow this world and I am excited to see where she takes it!

An Amazing Debut Release from a New Author

I’m glad I took a chance on this fascinating dark romance about an underground network of vigilantes and assassins, with the focus of this story being on a strong, savage, kick-butt heroine with PTSD, a ruthless demeanor, and the ability to un-alive people in a blink. There are two love interests in this ménage/multiple-partner/polyamory love story for readers to swoon over, and quite a number of triggers — so be sure to read those warnings before purchase! I had pre-ordered a copy of Bloodlust early on, but was then able to secure an ARC to read before release. It was so good that I had to reread it again and write a review on my purchased copy. Though this book ends on a cliff-hanger, I don’t feel robbed of a complete story. It was a good place to end this tale and set up for the next book, which I’m excited to read! Really, this is an impressive first release from a new author that I’m thrilled to recommend.

4.5 rating rounded up to 5!!

This is first book I’ve read that has equal the amount of storyline and spice!! And I LOVED it!!

Blade, Zeke, and Charli lost their parents as teenagers. They eventually ended up in the streets where they survived by stealing and pickpocketing. They learned the ropes of the streets and grew their own business.

At almost 30, Blade and her brother Zeke have a thriving Underground empire. Someone begins targeting Blade’s businesses, now it’s personal. Her past has come back to haunt her and everyone she loves including her lovers Axel and Harley are in danger.

I never got bored with this story. It was exciting!! I really enjoyed the authors writing style. And the spice was crazy sexy!!

Alex Denver, my friend, that cliffhanger has me itching for book 2!!

I didn’t know what to expect coming into this book, but I wasn’t expecting that!

Blade was an amazing character. A bada$s FMC with more bite than bark. Her story is haunted and dark::definitely mind your triggers coming into this one. I really enjoyed her POV and both her strength and fears resonated.

Harley and Axel balance Blade out so well, and yet they’re so very different. I didn’t know how it would all work together but they just *fit* and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

There are many well detailed side characters in this book and I am definitely interested to see where these paths go! Definitely check your triggers at the door and buckle up. This is not a smooth ride into the sunset. It’s dark and twisted and I need answers…. Now! 😳

I've had this one sitting on my TBR for awhile and I'm glad to have read it before the release of the second book of the duet has been released! I certainly won't be waiting as long to read that one. I liked the relationship dynamic quite a bit but I wish we would have seen a little more of the MC/crime elements. Blade is a strong FMC and it was lovely to see her break some of her defensive walls down. Harley and Axel are perhaps too good to be true, but who doesn't like to place themselves in the fantasy of being the sort of woman two great men will wait for? I'm hopeful the writing style will progress along with the characters in the second book, as that was the only thing keeping me from a 5-star rating.

This was my first book by Alex Denver and now i want to read more!!

Bloodlust is the first book in the series, it is dark, and does end in a cliffhanger.

This starts by telling us how Zeke, Blade, and Charli came to have the lives they are living and how they built their empire. There is some truly saddening things that happen to them, and it brings them together and helps form the family they become.

The bond these 3 have blows me away. Blade(Lilith) will literally do ANYTHING it takes to protect them. She is seriously badass. This book will stick with you for days after you finish it. I have literally have no words for how good this was. I couldnt get enough and I can NOT wait for book 2! You guys really need to read this one!!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

I was so hooked on this book once I got started. We meet Blade a very powerful and deadly woman. The how and why she got the way plays out for us as the story progresses and then we hit the current timeline. The story moves at a fast clip from there while the danger just keeps getting stronger and stronger. This leads us to one doozy of a cliff hanger making me happy that the wait for the rest is really short. If you enjoy dark mafia style romance filled with all types of hookups then you have to give this a shot. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as impressed with a debut novel as I was with Bloodlust! It is steamy and dark and it left me wanting more! Blade is not your typical heroine. She is smart and strong and fierce! I love that she has Axel as her strong match and has Harley to keep her soft side. This book takes you on a wild ride from a dark past, into tragedy, and the fight to live. Then the past comes back to haunt. Can they all make it out alive and unscathed? I can’t wait to find out! Definitely a one click author for me from this very first book!

I loved this book. Blade aka Lilith knows exactly who she is, what she wants, and doesn't back down from anything. She definitely grows emotionally throughout the book which I enjoyed. Her walls slowly crumbled as she let Axel and Harley in. Harley is such a sweetheart and is polar opposite to Axel who is such a controlling persona, but both have a possessive streak a mile wide that is locked in on Blade. The way they both complete her is truly amazing with one comforting her and the other pushing her to her limits. This book is a wild ride, and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

This book had me on my toes through the whole thing! There were times I felt that some of the scenes were only placed to add in some ✨🌶✨ but I’m cool with that. It was very delicious and well written out.

Harley is my favorite character. He’s well rounded and level headed. I love how he is a light and calm in the dark world of Blade.

It dragged on just a little, those spots still kept my attention though and it was nice getting a little background. They weren’t exactly necessary to the story, but I enjoyed them.

Review

Such an awesome read. This is a dark story of a brother and sister and her best friend and their escape, leaving behind everything including their identities. An escape from a past full of tragedy and loss, of abuse, and torture. Eventually they take on the names of Lucifer, Lilith and Charli and they rebuild their lives together with the help of a crime boss and his people they learn to live again and recreate themselves into stronger harder individuals who eventually end up building themselves an Empire of their own to rule over. They manage to find love and loyalty in others. Warring with another organization called the Diamond Ring they find themselves being targeted and Lilith aka Blade finds herself being hunted by her past. Be aware of TW and this does end on an ‘OMG Nooooooooo’ cliffy!! Book 2 can’t release soon enough for me. But if you like Dark Criminal Romance where there’s lust, love, steam, blood, laughs, tears, anger, and angst then you will definitely love this. I Highly recommended this book!!

This book was dark and sexy and dangerous.

The spice was OFF THE CHARTS.⠀The story had me flipping pages like I was Jeff Gordon in a Nascar race.⠀I had to know who was behind the attacks. I had to know how the Underground peeps ended up. I had to know how Blade and her men were.

The cliffhanger???? @authoralexdenver THE AUDACITY!!!

Blade is a strong ass woman and is feared by all and for good reason but I also feel like she still has a moral compass.

I cannot WAIT for book 2 to come out this month! Im biting at the bit for it!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised by Bloodlust. I loved the bond between Blade, Zeke and Charlie. As their backstory came out throughout the book it made so much sense why they were the way they are and why Blade has so much trouble letting people in. I didn't think I would like Harley because of how their relationship was described in the beginning but I really did. This book was bloody, a bit mysterious and very steamy. I cannot wait to get my hands on part 2.

Zeke, Blade, and Charli run from abuse and find a new home from the streets they'd been living in. They build a small empire to support and protect themselves as the get older. The danger and suspense is off the charts. Walls crack, relationships form, and a monster from the past rears his psychotic head. I enjoyed this dark, edge of your seat book.
